MRI introduced unique safety considerations related to strong magnetic fields and to implanted devices and the field developed rigorous screening processes and zoning practices to mitigate projectile and heating risks and accessibility challenges such as scan duration claustrophobia and cost spurred innovations in open scanners faster sequences and patient centered protocols and ongoing work focuses on expanding access while maintaining safety and diagnostic performance
