Over decades medical schools and professional societies expanded opportunities and mentorship programs and targeted initiatives increased representation in training programs and leadership roles and diversity efforts improved cultural competence and patient care and created pathways for research and for policy influence and institutions continue to measure progress and to implement strategies that support inclusive recruitment retention and advancement

Ongoing Challenges and Opportunities

Despite progress disparities persist in pay promotion and in representation in certain subspecialties and addressing these gaps requires sustained commitment to mentorship sponsorship flexible career pathways and to addressing systemic biases and collecting and publishing data on workforce diversity and outcomes supports accountability and informs interventions that create a more equitable radiology profession
